To all of you who work as judges or have some knowlege around this... I`d be really interested in knowing to what extend the mucic choice of a gymnast and the according choreography and dance has an influence on the score given for that routine.
Would you give less points to a gymnast showing a great routine but now having much dance or choreography and no recogniseable interaction with the music than to a gymnast who really moves and dances to the music and tries to tell a story?
If so how big would the score difference possibly be?

Well in the sort of gymnastics that i judge (national levels 1-6 basically) the deductions for artistry and routine construction are very small. The worst looking routine will only be 0.6-0.8 down from the best looking routine (assuming all skills are scored the same!).
So no i dont think music choice and artistry have much impact on a routine!

There is a deduction for "music and movement not in harmony" and we are lucky to use it maybe twice a season. This deduction is mostly used if the routine doesnt end with the music. If there were two routines that were equal in difficulty (Start Value) and equal in deductions and all we had to go with would be artistry/music and movement - we would award the girl with the better movement the higher score (by .1-.2 or so usually).
